BELLEAIR BEACH -- In almost overlooked fashion, qualifying for those who plan to run for elective office in Belleair Beach begins at 8 a.m. Friday (tomorrow) and ends December 17 at noon.
While every other jurisdiction in the area quite openly lists the election details on a regular meeting agenda, it seems like Belleair Beach's actions went unnoticed.
A local mayor created a whirlwind of controversy a few years ago when he was accused of attempting to sneak a couple of people into office. Much court time was used up pursuing that case.
Terms ending on the current council are those of Lynn Rives, Presiding Officer, and Councilmembers Stan Sofer, Bert Cutler and Mary Jo Henderson. Mayor Mike Kelly's term is also up.
