Valedictorian, Politically Incorrect In Pinellas County

by c.j. pollick

CLEARWATER - Pinellas County school board members plan to review the possible elimination of scholarly awards such as Valedictorian and Salutatorian.

If passed by the Pinellas County School Board, no public schools in Pinellas County will honor top students, such as they have the past decades.

Politically correct thing to do, so say supporters of the scholarly elimination of Valedictorian titles.

Imagine how the top GPA student at Clearwater High would explain to colleges that he/she was top in the class, but not Valedictorian.

Politically correct. One radio commentator stated that perhaps this is yet another reason why U.S. high-tech scholars are found outside of the U.S. Our educational system does not award hard work and grades, the commentator lamented.

We honor top athletes, perhaps that athletic title should also be eliminated. After all, we do not wish to hurt the feelings of people who do not play sports.
