Jensen Named Volunteer Of Year

Georgia Jensen, a 10-year member of the Clearwater Community Woman's Club which is part of the worldwide General Federation of Woman's Clubs, has been selected as the 2006 CCWC Volunteer of the Year. Over the years she has served many roles in CCWC such as social chairman, 1st and 2nd vice president, president, past president/advisor and member at large.

CCWC is a club that believes in volunteer activities that serve the community. Members are requested to select at least one place to volunteer from several area organizations. Jensen chose not one but two.

As a school volunteer, she spends every Wednesday at two local elementary schools, Dunedin Elementary and San Jose elementary.

Cathy Crawford, a second grade teacher at Dunedin Elementary says, "She has been a volunteer in my class for the past 11 years. She is truly amazing and so upbeat. She makes every child she has ever worked with feel so special."

At San Jose, her two grandchildren, Trevor and Carly Jensen, have the fun of eating lunch with their active grandmother. She serves as a teacher's assistant in Trevor's third grade class. The Clearwater Food Bank is another of Jensen's volunteer activities for CCWC.

Jensen's volunteering continues at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where she is a deacon and is in charge of the greeters and ushers for the 11 a.m. Sunday service. At Top of the World she is one of the leaders of the Line Dance Association and a member of the "Jesters." The "Jesters" put on musical comedy shows. Jensen is one of the dancers in this group.

Her well-rounded life includes time to play bridge, 18 holes of golf, and swim. She is also a member of the sailing group, "The Windlasses," where she serves on the committee boat as principal race officer.

With three children and ten grandchildren, ages 2 to 16, she does regular "grammy" chores, such as taking the kids to the beach, on picnics and attending their many sporting events.

Jensen is serving for the second year as the producer of the Daisy Award Fashion Show, which will be held on Thursday, March 23, at the Harborview Center in downtown Clearwater. With her striking good looks and years of modeling experience in Ohio, Wisconsin, and Florida at Marshall Fields, Gimbles, Mass Brothers, Burdines and Robinsons, Jensen is a natural at coordinating a successful show.

Over $10,000 was raised at last year's event for the club's charities. The club president, Ellie Lee, praised Jensen for her energy and enthusiasm in everything she undertakes. "Georgia lives by the motto 'Early to bed - Early to rise' but in the hours in between she is busy serving her family and our community every single minute!"
