Carlouel Homeowners Association Holds Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the Carlouel Homeowners association took place Wednesday, February 8, at the Carlouel Yacht Club. President Kevin Lathan welcomed more than 40 members who had gathered to hear the latest information about the community.

Three men, Garret Hobart, Paul Randolph and Theron Palmer created the Carlouel subdivision in the early 1930's. They named the area after their wives, Caroline, Louise and Eleanor - creating the pleasant sounding name Car-Lou-El. Today's association was originally formed as the Carlouel Garden and Improvement Association and did not change names until 1985.

Highlights of this annual meeting were final plans for beautifying the front gate, beach access area improvements and the election of new member of the board and new officers.

Newly elected board members are Mara Basic, Kris Hempsey, Tom Richards and Les Spits. They join returning board members Debbie Arnold, Keith Cauthen, Bette Failor, John Meek, Ann Mitcham and Sue Williams. Kris Hampsey will serve as president for the association, with Sue Williams as the secretary/treasurer.

The meeting ended with the awarding of Gold Medals to Failor as an outstanding volunteer and to Lathan for his leadership as president for the past two years.
