PALM HARBOR, FL - February 6, 2006 - Larry Viens, a local insurance agent, recently went on the adventure of a lifetime! He traveled half-way around the world (with stopovers in Chicago, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Katmandu) to visit Mt. Everest Base Camp. During his travels, he ventured through the Kumbu Valley, visited many villages & Buddhist monasteries, took part in a week-long Hindu festival, traveled to the jungles of Nepal and then went on to Thailand.
Viens will share his journey through pictures and narration at the Palm Harbor Library on Thursday, February 23, at 12:00 noon. He will display the climbing equipment he used and some local Nepalese artifacts (tapestries, figurines, and prayer wheels).
An adventurer at heart, Viens has climbed the glaciers and mountains of Alaska twice. He and his wife celebrated her 50th birthday by taking a daring helicopter ride through the valleys of Kauai, Hawaii. He has hiked the Appalachian Trail numerous times and has ventured through Glacier National Park. His most recent trip was in July of 2004 when he summitted Mt. Rainier in Washington.
Viens and his wife are applying as participants to the T.V. reality show, "The Amazing Race." Let's keep our fingers crossed that they are accepted! Wouldn't it be exciting to watch them travel around the globe?
