
All field trips are open to the public and most are free. Van trips involve sharing van rental expenses and require a reservation three days before the trip. Overnight trips involve additional costs for lodging and travel and also require reservations. In all cases, a contact is noted who can provide additional details.
When the meeting place is Tri-City Mall, assemble outside the Party City store near U.S. 19. When the meeting place is Countryside Shopping Town, assemble outside Sears near U.S. 19. Where there are no bathroom facilities at the field trip site, the trip is marked X; rest stops will be provided en route. For all trips, please bring drinking water.
Saturday, May 6 at 8 a.m. - "Brunch with the Birds" at Moccasin Lake Nature Park, 2750 Park Trail Lane, Clearwater. Help celebrate "Fun'n Sun" with a guided walk of the Nature Park, led by an experienced nature guide. "Brunch" including fresh fruit, donuts, bagels, beverages, tea and coffee will follow the walk and opportunities will be given to ask questions regarding nature, birds and the park. Saturday, May 6 at 6:45 a.m. - Emerson Point Park for Wood Storks, Spoonbills and water birds in fresh and saltwater habitats, viewing tower and trail ends on the bayfront at a Native American midden. One mile plus trail and boardwalk east of Ellenton on the southern shore of Tampa Bay. Meet at Tri-City Mall. Call - 781-0745
Friday, May 19 at 6:45 a.m. - Weedon Island Canoe Trail. Hope to see Mangrove cuckoos, water and wading birds in mangrove habitats. Picnic at shelter; tour interpretive center and hike uplands, boardwalks, and/or trails afterward. Four mile water trail with some portage at low tide. Bring your own boat and lunch. Monday, May 29 at 7 a.m. - Memorial Day Field Trip to Bay Pines for shorebirds, water birds and resident songbirds. Two mile walk along shores of Boca Ciega Bay in wetlands hammock and mangrove habitats. Meet in the first parking lot on the right inside park. Call - 712-1770
