Beach Walk Construction Update

provided by the City of Clearwater

Verizon has indicated that their work on Coronado Drive is nearing completion and they hope to reopen the road to northbound traffic by the end of this week. Third Street remains closed where it intersects Coronado Drive, although Third Street is open for parking. Fifth Street remains closed between Coronado and Hamden.

By the end of this month, all preparatory utility work should be done and Westra construction workers expect to begin work on Coronado Drive. The right-of-way on both sides of Coronado Drive, between the south end of Fifth Street and the north end of the Hyatt property, will be taken up with the Beach Walk project. In the future, Second Street will be located at the north end of the Hyatt property. A white line has already been painted on parts of the east side of Coronado Drive to mark the right-of-way. The remainder will be painted soon to allow property owners and residents to more clearly see the area that will be impacted. A 4-foot asphalt sidewalk will be installed for pedestrians along that line. There will be two lanes of traffic open next to the sidewalk, one for northbound traffic and one for southbound traffic. To get ready for the construction on Coronado Drive, Progress Energy will move their poles out of the right-of-way, and newspaper stands, pay phones, and the PSTA bus stop will also move to other locations outside of the right-of-way.

Clearwater Beach continues to welcome visitors who are enjoying the sunny weather we are experiencing. The Marina, Pier 60, Pier 60 Park, and Sunsets at Pier 60 are operating as always and ready for visitors.
