Honor and Alyxandra Bailey both love to read and write. Their talents were recently recognized when both girls won first place in their age divisions in a countywide writing competition.
Each year the "Friends of the Largo Library" organization sponsors a short story writing competition for three age divisions: elementary, middle and high school. About 200 entries are submitted in each division. Entries are received from all over Pinellas County.
Earlier this year the "Friends" awarded the elementary division to Alyxandra Bailey. Alyxandra, age 11, lives in Largo and is a fifth grader at Curtis Fundamental Elementary School in Clearwater.
Recently the "Friends" held a ceremony to present the awards to the middle school and high school divisions. Alyxandra was present to watch her big sister Honor receive the top prize in the middle school age group.
Honor Bailey, age 14, lives in Largo and is an eighth grader at Seminole Middle School. Honor and Alyxandra are the daughters of Keith and Lucy Bailey of Largo.
The "Friends of the Largo Library" is a fundraising and volunteer organization for the Largo Public Library. Each year they sponsor the "Stanley Shalit Short Story Writing Competition." The "Friends" award $50, $100, and $500 to the first place recipients in the elementary, middle and high school divisions, respectively.
