Beginning in May, and in conjunction with better hearing month nationally, Sertoma International's Suncoast district will be placing collection canisters in all Publix Supermarkets for the purpose of collecting used/unwanted hearing aids. These items will be repaired under Sertoma's Hearing Aid Repair Program called SHARP and in turn will be donated at little or not cost to those in need.
Howard Calhoun, governor of the Suncoast District, working with All Children's Hospital, Eric Alveraez and Lonnie Malantino of the St. Petersburg Noon Sertoma Club, are responsible for this program and should be congratulated. Other Sertoma Clubs in the Suncoast District will head up the distribution and maintenance of the collection canisters.
