Clearwater Alerts City Residents To Water Testing Businesses Soliciting The Area

The City of Clearwater would like to warn its residents that two companies promoting water testing to individual homes are not associated with the city. Southeast Water Services, Inc. and Florida Water Works are private, for-profit water testing companies that have been mailing offers to homeowners in Clearwater. The city does not endorse any private water sampling or filter companies, nor does the city's water require additional testing or filtering. Clearwater Public Utilities has stringent processes including water sampling to ensure water quality. For more information, call Clearwater Customer Service at (727) 562-4600.

Residents who feel these mailings are misleading in any way should send copies of the mailing to: Attorney General's Office Economic Crimes, 3507 Frontage Rd., Suite 325, Tampa, FL 33607.

On June 2, 2003 Southeast Water Services, Inc. entered into a consent judgment with the Attorney General's office due to deceptive selling practices. Florida Water Works currently has an unsatisfactory record with the Better Business Bureau due to a pattern of complaints regarding high-pressure sales tactics and misleading selling practices. For more information about these companies contact the State Attorney General's Office at (813) 287-7900.
