June is just blooming with opportunities to buy and learn more about one of the area's most popular flowering plants.
On Saturday, June 10, the Sunset Chapter of the American Hibiscus Society will offer three chances for fun and learning. Members will host a plant sale, their annual flower show and an educational program. Find out more about the hibiscus that is probably the most popular and widely planted shrub of the tropics.
Beginning at 10 a.m., a plant sale of popular hybrid hibiscus varieties will begin. Until 11:30 a.m., bloom entries will be accepted for judging in the annual flower show. Everyone is welcome to enter hibiscus flowers from their gardens. After the judging, the flower show opens for viewing from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., chapter members will hold an educational program on growing hibiscus. For more information, call the Society at (727) 530-9118.
Admission and parking are free. The Pinellas County Extension Service is located at 12520 Ulmerton Road in Largo next to the unique and all natural Florida Botanical Gardens. Both of these treasures are part of the 182 acres of nature, art and history known as the Pinewood Cultural Park.
