LARGO - The Pinellas Education Foundation has announced that David Warner, a 2006 graduate of Clearwater High School, is the recipient of the 2006 Steve Georgiadis Memorial Scholarship. The Steve Georgiadis Scholarship is awarded to a Pinellas County high school baseball player who demonstrates the values of teamwork, leadership, high academic performance and love for the game.
Steve Georgiadis was a 1988 graduate of Seminole High School, an outstanding student and a baseball player whose remarkable talent was eclipsed only by his passion for the game. Steve was the Pinellas County Player of the Year and attended the University of Florida on a baseball scholarship. Steve, whose life was cut tragically short during his sophomore year at UF, so inspired his teammates that his number has been retired at Seminole High and the University of Florida.
Warner, whose $1,500 scholarship will be applied to his college education at the University of Central Florida, is also a recipient of a 2006 Derby Lane Scholarship, and was a member of the Clearwater High School Varsity Baseball and Golf Teams. His award was presented by Ms. Angela Georgiadis, Steve's mother, at the June 5 Tampa Bay Devil Rays game at Tropicana Field.
