
LARGO - The Largo Cultural Center announces the following after school Improv Acting Classes for kids and teens beginning Thursday, September 7.
Imagination & Creative Play! - Students will have fun and excitement as they are introduced to the basic concepts of creative play and use of their imaginations through theatre games, songs, and exercises. Perfect for the shy student trying to get out of his shell (3:30 p.m. - 4:15 p.m., Age Level: 2nd to 4th grade)
Improvisation & Stage Play! - This is a perfect class for the students wanting to express themselves. With strong emphasis on improvisation and the exercises of legendary children's theater director, Viola Spolin, students will learn the fundamentals of creating characters from scripts they help create. (4:30 - 5:30 p.m., Age Level: 5th to 7th grade)
Improvisation & Acting for the Stage! - In the spirit of Saturday Night Live and Monty Python, students will begin with a strong foundation in the exercises and games of improvisation. Teams will then be developed and short scenes created based on the improvisations (2:30 - 3:15 p.m., Age Level: 8th to 12th grade)
Each session will run for seven weeks culminating in a free short recital. Cost will be $6 per session with a tab fee of $10. Classes will be held in the Jenkins Room at the Largo Public Library. Classes will be taught by Rick Robinson, Jr. who has over 14 years experience teaching kids theater and improvisation.
