Frenchy's 14th Annual Gumbo Tennis Classic, the Florida west coast's largest recreational doubles tournament, is just around the corner. Registration is taking place now for the men's women's and mixed doubles tournament to be held Friday, Nov. 3, through Sunday, Nov. 5, at McMullen Tennis Complex in Clearwater. This event attracts nearly 400 players from around the country. All proceeds will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters, serving Pinellas, Hernando, and Citrus Counties.
Players can register at $40 per player for one division or $65 for two divisions. Registration fees include an official event t-shirt, gift bag, refreshments, unlimited servings of Frenchy's gumbo, and free admission to the Draw Party on Thursday, Nov. 2, at Frenchy's Saltwater Café, Clearwater Beach. Draw Party attendees will have the opportunity to preview and pre-bid on items in a silent auction. The auction, which will continue through tournament play on Saturday afternoon, will feature items donated by area merchants. Non-registered guests may attend the Draw Party for a $10 admission fee.
In addition to regular tournament play, the Suncoast Tennis Foundation will be hosting a Kids' Fun Day on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., where children under 16 can participate in tennis-related games and contests for prizes. Space is limited. Please call 727-518-8860 for reservations.
