City of Clearwater Laboratory Receives Two Achievement Awards

CLEARWATER - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandates that Wastewater Treatment Plant Laboratories outsource quality assurance testing annually. This is the third year in a row that Clearwater's Laboratory achieved recognition for their outstanding work under this program.

The Study is accomplished by conducting parallel tests on the Laboratory's split samples and evaluating the analytic and reporting ability of the Lab by comparing results.

Analytical Products Group, Inc., the proficiency-testing provider utilized by the Clearwater Internal Lab, utilizes a Laboratory Excellence Program. Clearwater's Lab is being honored with two Special Recognition Awards for achievements reached in the Study results. Analysis for chemicals for Marshall Street and the East/Northeast Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plants both received recognition. All analyses included in the study obtained 100 percent acceptable results; none were deemed unacceptable or in error, which is the criteria to receive the award.

In the Study, 1,892 laboratories participated, and from these, had parameters with 100 percent correct. This places Clearwater's lab in the top 2 percent in the nation. "What an impressive accomplishment to have received this acknowledgement for three years in a row. Thanks goes to Maria de la Cantera and the Laboratory Team for their hard work and dedication," said Andy Neff, Public Utilities Director for Clearwater.
