January 8 - Birding at the Speed of Drift - Sandy Huff, internationally known award-winning outdoor writer, asks: Tired of hiking in the hot sun to look at birds? Try sitting down, usually in the shade, and watching birds in their native habitat. At the same time, you're viewing, and being propelled by, Florida's gorgeous rivers. Huff is the author of Paddler's Guide to the Sunshine State, plus over 1000 articles in magazines and newspapers. Join her for an illustrated look at Florida's many river, stream and coastline birds you can see from a canoe or kayak. You'll even get some paddling tips.
Field Trips - All field trips are open to the public and most are free. There is a charge for van trips and in the case of car pooling, a reimbursement to the driver for gas is considered proper. Overnight trips involve additional costs for lodging and travel and also require reservations. In all cases, a contact is noted who can provide additional details. When the meeting place is Tri-City Mall, assemble outside the Party City store near US 19. When the meeting place is Westfield Shopping Town-Countryside Mall, assemble outside Sears near US 19. Be mindful that there may be no restroom facilities at field trip site. Rest stops will be provided on longer trips. Please bring water and sun screen. Lunch will be noted in field trip description.
