BELLEAIR BLUFFS - The city has an opening on the City Commission because of the departure of Britt Nelson and any citizen who shows up next Tuesday has a shot at filling that vacancy.
There will be a special election in March, but in the meantime, the commission will choose a citizen at Tuesday's meeting, a day late because of the King holiday.
Another open job in the city structure available to any qualified citizen is an alternate on the Board of Adjustment.
Two items that were on Monday's commission meeting agenda were taken off to better fit with the special planning meeting the city has scheduled for February 24.
An update on revisions to the sign code and possible revisions to buffering requirements were taken off Monday's agenda because they pertain to matters that will be taken up at the planning meeting.
Revisions to the ordinance on the special master for code violations were approved Monday with the decision that the commission would appoint the master and that the commission will take final punitive action on any procedures approved by the special master.
Some properties already are under consideration for action by the special master and it was decided that Tom Trask, the city's lawyer, would review these cases with Robert David, the public works boss and code enforcement officer.
