City Clerk Nancy McCollum swore new Mayor Lynn Rives into office at the city's meeting Monday
A special city council meeting was held Monday, March 19. New Mayor Lynn Rives was sworn in along with returning council members Stan Stofer, Vice Mayor Mary Mortensen and new comer Rob Baldwin. Outgoing mayor Rudy Davis was given a special recognition award for his service to Belleair Beach. Davis said he will continue to stay involved with Belleair Beach TV channel 15 to further promote citizen awareness and involvement in Belleair Beach government.
During the meeting, the council voted to elect Mary Mortenson to serve as vice mayor to Rives in a 5-1 vote. Council member Stan Stofer cast the only opposing vote. Council member Jeff Coulson was absent from the meeting.
A meeting date of Monday, March 26, at 4 p.m., was scheduled so that the newly formed council can begin to tackle the city's foremost business---contracting police services, construction or not, of a new city hall, and taking additional steps toward finding a new city manager, or not.
