Clearwater Wins Healthy Hero Award

CLEARWATER - Clearwater's four month old, community wellness initiative Healthy Choices for a Healthy Clearwater has won an award. The Patel Foundation for Global Understanding awarded eight Healthy Hero Awards as a part of the 2007 Global Citizen & Healthy Heroes Awards Celebration at the Tampa Convention Center on March 30.

These awards recognize and celebrate organizations and individuals who create wellness, safety and health in Tampa Bay, and empower individuals and communities to lead healthier lives. Out of 60 outstanding nominees, Clearwater was selected as one of the eight to receive the Healthy Hero Award.

The Healthy Choices for a Healthy Clearwater initiative began in January 2007 and is a community wide effort to promote healthy activities within the city. Its success is due to the collaboration of many organizations including the Clearwater YMCA, Morton Plant Mease Hospital, Pinellas County School Board, Clearwater Public Libraries, Pinellas County Health Department, and the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce. The Healthy Choices for a Healthy Clearwater monthly newsletter highlights healthy activities happening each month within the city and encourages citizens to make healthy choices each day.
