Beach Walk Construction Update

provided by the City of Clearwater

Westra Construction is completing Phase I work on the Beach Walk project. The intersection at Fifth Street and Hamden Drive is open. Hamden Drive is operating with one lane open for traffic in each direction. The center lane is closed. Drainage work to increase the size of the pipe that penetrates the seawall on Fifth and Third streets continues.

Westra Construction will pave the eastbound side of South Gulfview Boulevard from Hamden Drive to the Hess Station on May 25, after completing utility work there. One lane is open for traffic in each direction. Re-striping, landscaping, tree grates, signage and driveway connections will occur, resulting in final traffic patterns in place by the end of this month. The north end of Coronado and Fifth Street will also be paved on or about May 25.

In early June, Nelson Construction expects to reopen the Pier 60 parking lot. City workers are installing a temporary traffic signal there that will be a cautionary flashing light until the Pier 60 parking lot reopens, at which time it will become a fully operational signal.

The next Hard Hat Meeting is 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, June 5, at Frenchy's South Beach Café, 351 South Gulfview Blvd.

The targeted completion date for the Beach Walk project is before Super Bowl 2009. Visit www.myclearwater.com/beachwalk or call 562-4681 for more information.
