CLEARWATER - Civitans countrywide celebrate Law Week. Clearwater Civitans celebrated by recognizing a member of the Clearwater Police Department for Excellent Performance of Police Duty and Service to the Community.
Detective Michael Folk, a 10 year veteran of the Clearwater Police Department, has been a Child Exploitation and Internet Crimes Specialist for the last 5 years. His job is to protect children from child pornographers and investigate the proliferation of child pornography.
Mike has spent more than 500 hours in classes and training from specialized agencies across the country. He has worked with the U.S. Department of Justice, the F.B.I., the U.S. Attorney's Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Mike is a member of the select Internet Crimes Against children Task Force, a national organization of agencies, manpower, and resources that works to stop these disturbing crimes.
Detective Folk has made literally dozens of arrests of criminals preying on children, and those who manufacture and distribute child pornography. His conviction rate is 100 percent.
You may have seen several of Detective Folk's cases on television, or in the newspapers. They are so outrageous and offensive that they become the center of media attention.
Detective Folk's dedication to duty, and proficiency in performance, is recognized by his peers and is the reason for his receiving the 20th Annual Clearwater Civitan Award of a recognition plaque and cash award.
