Countywide Rules to Perpetuate TourismA public meeting for increased density will be held August 21, at 6:30 p.m., in the Pinellas County Courthouse, 5th floor. The Pinellas Planning Council proposed amendments will create a climate where it is financially feasible for a developer to build a hotel as compared to a residential project. It also encourages the 'packaging' of smaller pieces of property to create midsized motels. With the current loss of so many countywide hotel/motel units, this incentive will help bring back lost tourist tax dollars to promote our destination. The proposal is only for 'true' hotels and does not apply to condotels, timeshares, etc. The City of Clearwater has made it know that it endorses the increased density and will vote on it after approval by the County. Each city within the County can choose whether or not to follow within the guidelines.
