Governor Charlie Crist delivers “clean marina” message at the Clearwater City Marina.

CLEARWATER - Promoting Florida's Clean Boating Partnership was Governor Charlie Crist's mission on his visit to the Clearwater Municipal Marina Thursday.

Clearwater, whose designation as a Clean Marina first came October 24, 2000, was one of the first marinas in the state to be so named.

The program grades on the following categories: Emergency Action Plan, Hurricane Preparedness, Fire Safety, Fueling Practices, Fuel Storage Tank Compliance, Solid Waste Management, Liquid Waste Management, Hazardous Waste Management, Boat Cleaning and Stormwater Management.

There are 145 Clean Marinas statewide, 13 of them in Pinellas County.

Governor Crist, who is a boat owner, believes every Floridian's responsibility is good stewardship of our environment.
