CLEARWATER - Clearwater Alumnae Panhellenic will kick off a new year on Monday, September 17, with its annual President's Reception at the Clearwater East Branch Library, 2251 Drew Street. Time is 6:30 p.m. Members of the 18 national sorority alumnae groups affiliated with the organization are invited to attend. A special program is planned and refreshments will be served. Host sororities are Alpha Omicron Pi, Chi Omega, Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Beta Phi.

Members of the newly installed Panhellenic Council executive board met at the library on September 5 to discuss plans for the reception and other upcoming events. Joyce Metcalf of Chi Omega, president for 2007-2008, conducted the meeting. Other officers are Kim Swartzel of Delta Delta Delta, vice president; Lynn Lawton of Kappa Alpha Theta, recording secretary; Patricia Moriarty of Pi Beta Phi, corresponding secretary; and Claudia Leonardi of Delta Gamma, treasurer. Chairing the various committees of the council are Nancy Cerwin of Alpha Sigma Alpha, awards; Joann Blackburn of Kappa Alpha Theta, book club; Ginny Jones of Alpha Chi Omega, bridge; Pat Moriarty of Pi Beta Phi, communication and recruitment; Marian Dunn of Chi Omega, historian; Claudia Leonardi of Delta Gamma, membership; Sandie Ramsden of Sigma Sigma Sigma, parliamentarian; Betty O'Shea of Sigma Kappa, philanthropy; Joyce Metcalf of Chi Omega, publicity; Kim Swartzel of Delta Delta Delta, social/program and ways and means; and Sue Meier of Zeta Tau Alpha, yearbook.

Another event planned this fall is "The Literary Muse" Luncheon, which will take place at Alfano's Restaurant, 1702 Clearwater-Largo Rd., on Saturday, October 20. Mim Anne Houk will be guest speaker. Members will also join sorority alumnae from Tampa and St. Petersburg on February 16 for the Tri-City Panhellenic Luncheon at Feather Sound Country Club. February 28 will bring Clearwater Alumnae Panhellenic's Premiere Night at the Largo Cultural Center. Premiere Night, which will feature the musical "Mame", is the group's major fundraiser for scholarships which are awarded in May to up to five sorority women. The number of scholarships and amount given is dependent upon the monies raised.

Many members also belong to the Panhellenic Book Club and/or Panhellenic Bridge Group. The Book Club meets at 10 a.m. the second Tuesday of the month at the Clearwater Main Library. The Bridge Group gathers the third Monday of each month at Dunedin Country Club.

Clearwater Alumnae Panhellenic, which has been affiliated with the National Panhellenic Conference since 1963, has nearly 400 members.
