
It's a New Season for Clearwater Garden Clubby Sandi Fahy
Photo by SANDI FAHY CLEARWATER - The Clearwater Garden Club, which was organized in 1950 and federated in 1951, is still going strong. Its nearly 50 members are ready for a new season and on September 14, many of them gathered at garden club headquarters at 405 Seminole Street for the first meeting of the fall. The guest speaker was Megan Gregory of Welcome Home Design. Topic of her address was "Color Ideas for Centerpieces & Tablescapes". Regular meetings are scheduled the second Friday of each month, September through May, at 12:45 p.m. Members of the club's "Garden on Saturday" group meet at 10 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. The Saturday sessions were added to accommodate members who work throughout the week. This year's officers, who were installed in May, are Hilda Sinnett, president; Cathy Foley, 1st vice president; Liz Buchanan, 2nd vice president; Jean Columbo, treasurer; Marsha Clark, recording secretary; and Helen Hoskins, corresponding secretary and parliamentarian. Directors are Belen Brown, Laura Daniel and Dona Leach. The next meeting of the club will be October 12. The program on "Drip Irrigation" will be presented by Michaele Adams, M.G. A course in Floral Design Studies will be offered to the public on October 13, October 27 and November 10. Courses I, II and III will be taught by certified floral design instructors Belen Brown and Helen Hoskins. For more information, you may call 796-7125 or 518-1389. The fundraiser begins at 8:30 a.m. Michael Pettay of the Pinellas Cooperative Extension Service is set to address the club on November 9. He will discuss propagation. The "Garden on Saturday" session on November 17 will feature Alice Jarvis, who will teach napin folding and tablescapes. Highlight of the month of December will be the club's Old Clearwater Bay Neighborhood Home and Garden Tour, chaired by Dona Leach. Homes on Engman St., Sunset Drive, Sunburst Drive, Sunburst Court and Venetian Point will be featured on the tour, which is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. on December 1. A "Holiday Luncheon" is on the agenda for December 14. The Clearwater Garden Club, whose theme is "Growth through Education and Conservation", welcomes new members.
