
Clearwater Family Health and Fitness Day PlannedCLEARWATER - Clearwater families are invited to participate in a national health and fitness day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Long Center, 1501 N. Belcher Road. Co-sponsored by the YMCA of the Suncoast and the City of Clearwater, Family Health and Fitness Day provides the opportunity to get everyone in the family up and moving. The grand opening of the newly renovated section of the Ream Wilson Trail, from the Long Center to NE Coachman, will be celebrated. Walkers and bicyclists can participate in a scavenger hunt, and bicycle helmets, Frisbees, pedometers and other goodies will be given away while supplies last. Chainwheel Drive will sponsor a free bicycle maintenance clinic from 9 a.m. to noon. Other free activities include volleyball, basketball, swimming, preschool programs, health assessments and more. Cardio tennis and disc golf will be played at Coachman Ridge Park, 1400 Old Coachman Road. Recognizing the importance of forming healthy habits to last a lifetime, Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard will kickoff the second Mayor's Move It, Move It! Challenge at 9:30 a.m. This five-week program encourages elementary age children to be physically active for at least 30 minutes every day after school.
