Clearwater Hosts Tea Party in Local Finale to National Reading Program

CLEARWATER - The City of Clearwater and the Clearwater Historical Society will host the finale event for the month-long Big Read campaign with a Jazz-age "Afternoon Tea" from 2 to 4 p.m., October 28, at the Plumb House, 1380 S. Martin Luther King Ave. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is the focus of the countywide literacy initiative, the Big Read.

Featured artists include the Arioso String Quartet, from the Florida Orchestra and actors from area theaters in the characters of F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. Guests are encouraged to dress in Roaring '20s style costumes. Light refreshments, croquet and children's art activities will be provided.

The Big Read, a national program of the National Endowment for the Arts, encourages literary reading by asking communities to come together to read and discuss one book. A National Endowment for the Arts representative will be at the Plumb House event.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information contact Elizabeth Minor at (727) 562-4814.
