IRB Museum Adds New Exhibit

Lisa Kerr, a volunteer at the Indian Rocks Beach Historical Museum, stands by the new exhibit which honors the firemen in the community. Memorabilia from the Indian Rocks Beach Volunteer Fire Department and Indian Rocks Beach Fire District, now known as the Pinellas Suncoast Fire and Rescue District, are featured. Prior to World War II, fire protection consisted of a cart with a manually operated tank and hose. In the late 1940s, the Volunteer Fireman's Association was founded with 25 members. It wasn't until the '50s that the city was incorporated and its fire department chartered. Another new addition to the museum was introduced at the November 10 meeting of the Indian Rocks Beach Historical Society. Visitors will now be able to hear short tales via two state-of-the-art interactive audio devices that were recently acquired. The Indian Rocks Beach Historical Museum, which is located at 203 4th Ave., is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For further information, call 593-3861.
