Margie Simmons Named 2007 City Finance Official of the Year

CLEARWATER - The Florida League of Cities recognized Margie Simmons, Clearwater's Director of Finance, as the City Finance Official of the Year for the state of Florida. The award is part of the "Florida Cities of Excellence" Awards Program. The presentation was held Nov. 9, during a luncheon ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport Hotel. Simmons was recognized for exemplary efforts that a city finance official contributes to the city.

The Florida Cities of Excellence Awards Program honors municipal leaders and municipalities throughout the state for devoted commitment to public service and their ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life in their cities.

Winners were selected by the League's executive committee and were chosen for their initiative in developing innovative programs and exemplary leadership. Simmons, along with winners of other FLC awards, will be featured in the League's magazine, Quality Cities.

Other award categories included: Florida City of Excellence, City Spirit Award, Council Member of the Year, City Citizen of the Year, City Clerk of the Year, City Attorney of the Year, Mayor of the Year, City Employee of the Year, and City Manager of the Year.

The Florida League of Cities, Inc., is the official organization of the municipal governments (cities, towns, villages, and chartered counties) in Florida, designed and established to meet and serve the needs of Florida's municipal officials.
