Week of Prayer for Christian Unity AnnouncedLARGO - St. Jerome Catholic Church and the Rev. Monsignor Brendan Muldoon will host an ecumenical liturgy for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity on Sunday, January 20, at 3 p.m. Participating in this 9th annual service will be Rev. Father Bob Wagenseil of Calvary Episcopal Church, Rev. Michael J. Glymph of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Rev. Father A. Edward Sellers of St. Dunstan Episcopal Church, Rev. Father Paul Pecchie of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Rev. Dr. John Stephenson of Anona United Methodist Church, Rev. Bill Main of the United Church of Christ, Church of the Isles, Rev. Tim Ehrlich of Oakhurst United Methodist Church, Rev. Dr. Tom Farmer, St. Paul United Methodist Church, Rev. Mike Thurow, Christ the King Lutheran Church, and Rev. James Welch Jr., Christ Presbyterian Church of Largo. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is a response to the call to pray for unity - unity among Christians, unity among churches, and unity in the human community. The Octave of Prayer for Christian Unity is January 18 to January 25. Those dates are chosen because they represent the feasts of two saints significant to our understanding of Christian Unity. January 18 is the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter, and January 25 is the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity was initiated in 1908, and its observance has changed over the years in accordance with developments in the ecumenical movement.
