They include the Bay Bouquet Garden Club of Dunedin, Belleair Garden Club, Clearwater Garden Club, Dunedin Garden Club, Garden Club of Largo, Palm Harbor Garden Club, Safety Harbor Garden Club, Tarpon Springs Garden Club and Top of the Bay Garden Club of Oldsmar. Though each sends one official representative, members of all the clubs are invited to sit in on the meetings which are held in October, December, February and April. Council members share ideas, programs and projects, according to past president Larry King. They also discuss new trends in gardening, she said. The February 7 get-together of the council took place in the Pinellas Room at Heritage Village. A coffee preceded the meeting and program presented by the Pinellas Exension Service. One of the topics discussed at the meeting was the group's upcoming area beautification contest. Caroline Kaufmann, who is co-president with Wendy Knaack of the Belleair Garden Club, advises that each of the member garden clubs are invited to compete for the $100 top prize which will be awarded for "best outdoor garden". "It's one way to promote landscape and keep our neighborhoods beautiful," she noted. A $100 prize will also be presented to the best project undertaken by a junior gardening group. Several local school groups are expected to participate. Entries for the competition must be submitted by Friday, March 7. A one page information sheet which includes club name, name and phone number of contact person and a description of the project should be sent to Caroline Kaufmann, 1270 Gulf Blvd., Suite 1802, Clearwater Beach, FL 33767. Email may be sent to kaufmanncl@msn.com. Questions? Call her at 595-2882. You may also contact Kaufman at the above number regarding the bus tour which will leave Belleair Garden Club headquarters, 903 Ponce de Leon Blvd., at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, for a review of the beautification projects throughout the county. Cost, which includes lunch, is $20. Deadline for reservations is March 20.
