Apply Now for Clearwater Bar's Student Legal Intern Program

CLEARWATER - The Clearwater Bar Association is pleased to announce the 2008 Summer Legal Intern Program. To qualify, students must live in or attend high school in north Pinellas County and have completed 10th grade but not yet graduated from high school. The six-week program is designed to provide a valuable work experience; to further the student's understanding of the law; and to provide a mentor relationship for the students. Clearwater attorneys and Clearwater Bar Foundation are funding the program and the internships will be hosted by local judges and law firms.

The paid internships will run from June 9 to July 25, 2008. Interns will perform numerous duties for their employers which may include copying, summarizing depositions, making deliveries, answering phones, assembling trial notebooks and doing research. The duties will be determined by the mentor/employer and therefore may vary from office to office.

To be considered, students must submit an application, a school transcript, two letters of recommendation and a 600-word essay by April 13. The essay topic is: Often the public perception of lawyers is less than positive. Is this deserved? Why or why not? Applicants will be interviewed by a selection committee. The interns will attend mandatory orientations which will prepare the students for what is expected of them and what they may expect and will focus on issues such as confidentiality, professionalism, punctuality, attention to detail and appearance.

Students may download an application at www.clearwaterbar/org/intern.html or phone (727) 462-4869 to request an application.
