Women's Learning Regatta Returns to Tampa Bay

Rolex Women's Match, a sailing regatta for women, takes place on Tampa Bay April 10 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and April 11-13 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (approximate times due to wind conditions). Boats are docked at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. (11 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg)

Created in 2002 to introduce women sailors to one-on-one match racing, the regatta focuses on round-robin-style racing in Sonar keelboats. This is the same style of racing used in the America's Cup.

There are 10 teams and each team is four women. Competitors come from as far away as Brazil and across the U.S. Two of the teams are from the St. Petersburg area.

Public viewing is best at the St. Petersburg Pier. (800 2nd Ave NE, St. Petersburg)

The Rolex Women's Match annually strives to improve opportunities for women sailors. The winner and runner-up of the Rolex Women's Match will gain an automatic invitation to compete in the Rolex Osprey Cup, an ISAF Grade 1 match racing event scheduled for October at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
