Six local non-profit organizations recently received $1,000 grants from the GFWC Clearwater Community Woman’s Club at the 37th annual Daisy Awards and Fashion Show. Martie Henderson, CCWC Grants Chair, in presenting the awards, stated: “With many area non-profit organizations searching for funding sources, it is our club’s privilege to be able to assist the six grant winners with their work helping those most in need in our community.”
The six winning organizations will use their funds in various ways to meet their ever pressing needs. The RCS Haven will use their funds to replace four tables with six chairs and high chairs in the dining room of their shelter to be used for eating and homework. Community Pride will be using the funds to present living nursery rhymes and fairy tales to underprivileged children. RCS Grace House will purchase 16 ceiling fans to reduce energy costs plus they will save even more by having the residents install the fans at no charge. The Lighthouse of Pinellas will purchase 14 videos entitled “CAN DO” for helping families guide their children’s progress in coping with blindness. The RCS Food Bank will use the funds for a new program using DVD’s to teach their clients nutrition, parenting, finance and medical skills. The final $1,000 grant will go to the College Fund of Pinellas for a scholarship for a student with both need and potential, which will be named the CCWC Scholarship.
The Clearwater Community Woman’s Club is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, which is an international volunteer service organization dedicated to community improvement. To learn more about these organizations or the CCWC Daisy Grants go to www.gfwc.org or www.clearwatercwc.org.
