Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay GarrisMost of us have found ourselves cheering when Dr. Laura Schlessinger has "zinged" someone on her regular radio show with a pithy comment that puts them in their place and, hopefully, gets their attention. Pick up her book, Stop Whining, Start Living, however, and the reader finds they might be the one getting "zinged." It's all for the good because Dr. Laura, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, has some good advice on how to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and begin to enjoy life. Available at the Clearwater Beach Branch Library, Stop Whining, Start Living is interesting reading even if you've never whined a day in your life. It's full of common sense for everyday living and even if you think you don't need to read it, you're sure to know someone you'd like to share it with. The Beach Library is still temporarily located in the parking lot between the tennis courts and the recreation center on Bay Esplanade. It's in a trailer so you may have to look close to recognize it as a library, but, inside there is a generous supply of good summer reading, as well as an assortment of DVD's and an opportunity to use the computers. And, next door at the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center, members can borrow tennis rackets to use on the Mandalay Avenue tennis courts to try their hand at tennis and see if they might want to pursue that energetic and very rewarding sport. Just ask at the desk in the Rec Center.
