
Kiwanis Club Awards Scholarship to Clearwater High GraduateSince 1982, the Kiwanis Club of Springtime City in Clearwater awards a two-year tuition scholarship to a Clearwater High School graduating senior at St. Petersburg College. The scholarship is named after two past members of the club - Max Devane/Bill Roys Scholarship where both were councilors at St. Petersburg Junior College. Chong Liu recently received his scholarship and will focus his studies on music. Kiwanis' Defining Statement is: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. The motto for Kiwanis is: "Serving the Children of the World". Recent club service activities include the 15th annual FREE Children's Health Fair on July 26 at the Long Center, college scholarship to SPC, many school programs from Headstart through High School including the Ed Wells, Jr. /Kiwanis Invitational Track and Field Meet for the past 46 years, as well as direct donations to children-related groups and causes that benefit children and youth in the Clearwater area. Kiwanis International has 17 clubs in Pinellas county with more than 300,000 members in 94 nations. Last year, Kiwanis clubs donated more than $100 million and almost 7 million volunteer hours for community service projects.
