Rotary Club of Clearwater Distributes Money to Charities

CLEARWATER - Members of The Rotary Club of Clearwater joined by representatives from many local charities attended a noon luncheon held at the Belleair Country Club on Wednesday June 18th for a day of special celebration. The efforts of the Rotary Club of Clearwater members to raise money for area charities this year culminates with a distribution of nearly $50,000, thanks in part to a successful Kingfish Tournament, which amounted to the largest fundraising effort for the year, and Birdies For Charities and SeaBlues beer pour.

On hand to accept their gifts were representatives from Big Brothers Big Sisters, Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf, Clearwater Free Clinic, Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Homeless Emergency Project, Kimberly Home, La Clinica Guadalupana, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Police Athletic League, Skycrest Christian School and UPARC. Each representing member briefly described how the funds would be used.

Jody Armstrong from the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, said the money will be used for a new dolphin scale to help scientist determine if the dolphin is receiving the correct diet by weekly weigh-ins.

Carol Downing from Blossom Montessori School for the Deaf, said the school will use the money for a new science curriculum and computer lab.

Charities are selected by the Charities Committee. A charity is yearly eligible as recipient for up to three years..
