Bill Sharpsteen, founder of Gold Coast Greyhound Adoptions, Inc., left, and volunteer Joe Heller are pictured with retired racing greyhounds (from left) Yale, 4, Karl, 3, and Sparkle, 3, at the Petsmart at Largo Mall on a recent Saturday morning. Greyhound Adoptions, Inc. is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to finding loving, permanent homes for retired racing greyhounds. Its mission, according to Sharpsteen, is "to educate the public regarding the gentle nature and wonderful temperament of the greyhound breed." Available dogs can be found at the Petsmart from noon to 4 p.m. each Saturday. Interested persons can call 365-8436 for further information.
