Largo Arts Tax Voted Down 6 to 1

The Chamber’s position against the proposed Arts Tax was supported at Tuesday night’s meeting when the Largo City Commission voted 6 to 1 to scrap the ordinance. This action followed what had been a tie vote of 3 to 3 when it was presented to the Commission on July 15.

Our thanks to Mayor Pat Gerard and Commissioners Gigi Arntzen, Mary Gray Black, Harriet Crozier, Bob Murray and Rodney Woods for taking this stand in support of new business development in Largo.  And thanks to all of you who contacted the Commission with your comments.

For illustration sake - based on two major developments currently underway in Largo - the ordinance would have cost the Diagnostic Clinic $300,000 (1% of $30 million) and the Holiday Inn Express $110,000 (1% of $11 million).

  - Tom Morrissette, President, Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce
