Luci Sampson and George, 5, at right, are followed by Mollie Royal and her pets George, 6, and Panda, 4, in the parade of the Great Pyrenees during American Kennel Club Responsible Dog Ownership Day at the Harborview Center in downtown Clearwater on September 6. Sampson and Royal, who are both members of Florida Great Pyrenees Rescue, were among those taking part in the Parade of Breeds, which featured a wide variety of dogs ranging in size from dachshunds to Great Danes. Agility, obedience and weight-pulling demonstrations were also on the agenda. Shelters and rescue groups were among the many exhibitors. Other organizations were on hand to provide information on different breeds, training and dog health.
A demonstration by the Pinellas County Sheriff's K-9 Unit was scheduled during American Kennel Club Responsible Dog Ownership Day at the Harborview Center on September 6. Koda, a 6-year-old German shepherd, awaits a command from his handler, Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputy Tony Lorusso, at left, who pats down Sheriff's Deputy Clark Wagner as he would any suspect just caught by Koda. Wagner was wearing an arm sleeve which protected him in the attack by Koda just minutes before.
