Petiquette Classes Now AvailableCLEARWATER – The Humane Society of Pinellas is pleased to now offer Petiquette Classes! This is a three week class that is for anyone who shares their life with a dog. Considering adopting a dog? Attend for one free class. You will get your behavior questions answered and learn how to teach your furry friend new behaviors and problem solve unwanted behaviors. We will cover how dogs learn, if and when to go to a dog park, how to teach your dogs some basic behaviors, how to keep your dog busy, collars and leashes, play, and discuss popular myths about dog behavior. One of the Humane Society’s dedicated volunteers, Ann Farmer, CPDT, CAP 2, works for Courteous Canine, Inc. where she provides clients with behavior consultations and private training sessions. She also teaches puppy, basic obedience, and Canine Good Citizen classes in Tarpon Springs. She conducts Ask a Trainer sessions at local veterinarian’s offices. Ann is always trying to increase her knowledge by reading and attending seminars. She is currently enrolled in the Companion Animal Sciences Institute in a program for Advanced Canine Behavioral Sciences. She belongs to the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. Ann believes in all reward based clicker training to teach dogs a variety of behaviors and change existing behaviors in a positive and force free manner. At the Humane Society of Pinellas she volunteers as the Open Paw® instructor. Open Paw® is a behavior enrichment program that rewards adoptable behaviors. Open Paw® also teaches volunteers at the shelter the value of positive reinforcement based training methods to help the dogs find and keep their forever homes. Ann also answers the HSP Behavior Help Line. The Petiquette Class is open to anyone with a dog in their life. This three session class is $50 with a special wag to those that have adopted a dog at the shelter! Class begins on Wednesday October 8th at 6:30 p.m. and meets for three Wednesdays in a row at HSP, 3040 State Road 590, in Clearwater. These classes are designed for humans only. Call Ann at 727-415-1567 or ann@courteouscanine.com to register and hold your spot.
