Clearwater Celebrates Fire Prevention Week With Open HouseOn Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Clearwater firefighters will address the dangers of home fires and teach citizens about potential fire hazards during the department’s third Annual Open House. Fire Prevention Week 2008 runs October 5 to 11. This year’s theme is Preventing Home Fires. All eight Clearwater Fire Stations will have various displays and demonstrations, station tours, and/or activities for the kids. This is a chance to meet your neighborhood firefighters. This event is open to the public and free. People who don’t regularly check their home for hazards could face a serious fire danger and not even know it. Fire departments responded to 400,000 home fires nationwide in 2006, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). In Clearwater, the total loss from residential fires last year was almost two million dollars!
