Fifteenth Annual Monofilament Cleanup Day

The Fifteenth Annual Monofilament Cleanup Day, sponsored by Tampa Bay Watch and Audubon of Florida, will take place on Saturday, October 25th. Thousands of feet of fishing line gets caught in the colonial bird nesting islands and other shorelines which poses a huge hazard to birds and other wildlife when they become entangled. This event helps to remove this threat while recycling the fishing line and turning it into something positive.

This project provides volunteers with equipment and data sheets for removal of monofilament fishing line from colonial bird nesting islands and other shorelines in their own boating areas. Volunteers are instructed on how to free any entangled live birds they encounter during the cleanup.
