National Society of Arts and Letters Learns of REH Dramatic Arts
President Sue Bowles presents Nicole Haumesser with a thank you plaque. The Clearwater/Tampa Bay Chapter of National Society of Arts and Letters held its first annual membership meeting at the Belleair Country Club October 8. The speaker, Nicole Haumesser, Resident Teaching Artist at Ruth Eckerd Hall, shared with the members of the National Society of Arts and Letters her experiences in the field of dramatic arts. She opened her presentation with a story she claimed was true, drawing her audience in, having them experience her emotional trauma, then telling them that this is the true job of an actor, that the story was untrue but she played her role well.. She went on to explain that one can learn techniques but must believe emotionally what she/he is trying to have the audience feel. Members heard about the various programs offered at REH as well as the many other areas that outreach programs contribute to in the community. This presentation was especially pertinent because the National Society of Arts and Letters Competition this year is in the area of Drama/Comedy. Competitors audition on the local level after applying to the local Chapter. The First Place Winner from each chapter then competes on the National level.
