IEYC Holiday Boat Parade Plans SetThe 2008 Memorial Holiday Boat Parade, organized by the Island Estates Yacht Club, is scheduled for Saturday, December 13th beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a rain date of December 14th. There will be a pre-parade captain’s meeting, Thursday, December 11th, 7 p.m., at the Clearwater Yacht Club. The Island Estates Yacht Club Boat Parade is one of the largest and most popular marine events in the Clearwater area and will be celebrating its 34th year. The parade honors the memory of Island Estates Yacht Club member, Nur Ulgen, who passed away during the year. The decorated boats will assemble at the South Bridge in Mandalay Channel at 6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., the parade will begin by going Eastward down the channel into the basin at Island Way Grill, then reversing and rounding out the Island Yacht Club. From there the parade will weave in and out of many of the Island Estates canals before heading over to Coachman Park around 8 p.m. Clearing the Memorial Bridge, the parade will move Westward along the causeway until green marker 7 where it will proceed South to the Clearwater Yacht Club’s judging stand. Cash and gift certificate prizes, donated by many area businesses, will be awarded to the best decorated boats. There is no parade entry fee. If you are interested in participating, contact Fleet Captain Wayne Millington, (727) 462-8106 or wmilling@tampabay.rr.com. Captain registration packets will be mailed to previous participants the first week in November.
