The lifelike replica of a Scotsman attracted the attention of (from left) Vi McConnell, Pat Herrmann and Carol Plummer at the City of Dunedin's "Old Fashioned Christmas" celebration in Downtown Dunedin on December 5. The ladies, members of The Friends of Melba and Quilting, stopped for a photo by the figure which accompanied the entry behind them that took first place in the 2008 Holiday Pole Decorating Contest. The award-winning light pole was transformed into a Christmas tree by Global Market Consultants, Inc. The quilters were on their way to demonstrate their art in the windows of various establishments that evening. Carriage rides, train rides, children's crafts, a puppet show, face painting, musical entertainment and a visit by Santa were all part of the fun. Performances by Margaret Morrison's Highland Dancers and the adult handbell choir from First United Methodist Church of Dunedin were also on the agenda.
