
Largo to Purchase Vehicles and Equipment for $1,224,948by Bill LopezLARGO - The City Commission in Largo authorized the city's Public Works Department to purchase light duty vehicles for various city departments at a cost of $572,766. The purchase of these vehicles was approved by the City Commission in the Fiscal Year 2009 budget and was thoroughly reviewed by the Fleet Management Division, Public Works Administration, and the Fleet Advisory Committee. All but one of these requested vehicles were budgeted for in Fiscal Year 2009. Each year as part of the budget process, the Fleet Management Division of the Public Works Department analyzes the vehicle needs of all City of Largo departments. The vehicle replacement schedules are developed in accordance with the recommendation of Fleet Management. The structure of this replacement program includes established life cycles for each type of vehicle based upon resale value and estimated life cycle maintenance costs. The purchase of all of the requested vehicles is within the budgeted amount for the vehicle replacements within each department. A request for a new vehicle for the Facilities Manager was also approved. The facilities manager requires travel to visit jobs, attend meetings, and supervise work. This additional purchase was reviewed and recommended by the Fleet Advisory Committee. Purchases were also approved to obtain Crown Victorias from Duval Ford for the Sheriff Department in the amount of $382,955 and Chevy Malibus from Classic Chevrolet for $61,067. Purchase of fifteen mobile computers and fifteen digital video cameras were approved at a cost of $183,556 along with one computer server from Big Sur Technologies for $24,591.
