Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay GarrisIn the changing river of budget cuts, this week, the Beach Library is back in service. The city would not save enough money by closing it. So are we glad we're too little to kill? It's also "cute" and "charming" and "compact" and very, very busy. In fact the librarians are still needing volunteers and I urge you to be one. Recent studies (reported in one of the pieces of junk mail I read regularly) have found that altruism is good for your mental and physical health. And health officials have long known that having something specific to do with your time is better for you than drifting through life. For those of you who are already volunteering at our library, our community thanks you. The library sponsored Beach Writer's Group will meet from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday ....... and now also the third Wednesday of March. You are invited to come and bring your manuscripts to share with other writer's for encouragement and critique. Several of the group are writing their memories down for their grandchildren to enjoy. One participant is working on a children's book with her small dog as the main character. Another has some poetry to share. Any kind of writing is welcome and the interaction with other writers is an inspiration. As for the survival of our recreation center, that's still up in the air. Call your Council members.
