
Future Rescuers Program SetThe Aquatics Division of the City of Largo's Recreation, Parks and Arts Department is offering a Future Rescuer Program, formerly known as Junior Lifeguard. The program is for ages 11 or older and costs $44 per person for city residents and $55 per person for non-residents with a Largo Recreation card. Class dates are Sat, April 11, 18, 25 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Tues. and Thurs., April 14-23, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Southwest Pool, located at 13120 Vonn Road. Future Rescuers is designed to teach young people the basics of Lifeguarding in order to strengthen their aquatic recreation skills. Recipients will receive American Red Cross certifications in CPR, First Aide, Water Safety Instructor Aide, and Community Water Safety. With successful completion of the class, individuals will be interviewed for selection to volunteer at the Highland Family Aquatic Center during the summer beginning June 8. Specific tasks will include assisting in summer camp swim testing, surveying blind spots for lifeguards, assisting with swim lessons, fitting life jackets, slide queuing and more. Future Rescuers will be assigned a 5-day work schedule including 4 weekday/evening and one weekend day.
