National Quilting Day Celebration at Heritage VillageQuilters have their own unique national holiday, and they plan to celebrate together with the public at Heritage Village Saturday, March 21. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with free admission.. Join quilters from St. Petersburg, Largo, Clearwater and Palm Harbor as they share their distinctive skills and offer a beautiful feast for the eyes. This National Quilting Day celebration showcases several historic buildings that will open to reveal specific kinds of quilts, including appliqué, miniature, art, pieced, wall hangings, challenges and antique. The quilters will demonstrate new and old techniques in each location. Two lectures are also scheduled, once in the morning and again in the afternoon. The lectures are titled, “The Impact of Quilts on the Civil War” and “Crazy Quilts: Their Origin, History and Future.” This quilting extravaganza is a family event, so bring the children and help celebrate with hands-on fun. The day is a grand way to reflect with pride on the traditions of quilt-making and the contributions crafters have made to their families and communities for many generations.
